Wood-firing

Ubud forest

I made these pieces during master John Dix's workshop "Gesturing with Earth: Painting with Fire" at Gaya Ceramic Arts Center.

Two weeks in the Bali forest, two nights awake beside the kiln feeding it coffee tree wood nonstop.

Fire decided what stayed and what burned away.

Every mark here is an accident the flame chose to keep.

Wood fired

50+ hours of wood firing with coffee tree in anagama kiln

Made in Indonesia

All pieces were created and fired in Ubud, at Gaya Ceramic Arts Center, with local clay.

No glaze

All colours naturally developed on the surface from the melted wood ash. This process is uncontrolled, and the results are unrepeatable.
